This story was cut from the original manuscript of the book MRS. ROWE'S LITTLE BOOK OF SOUTHERN PIE. I'm happy to share it here, along with the fabulous pie recipe—which did make it into the cookbook. Wearing Your Work It’s 9:30 in the morning at Mrs. Rowe’s Restaurant and Cynthia Craig looks tired. Her eyes have circles under them and her hands are red and rough from scrubbing them. She is coming off her shift of stirring, kneading, patting, twisting, and sliding huge pans in...

One of my great passions is history. It used to be ancient history, now it's American history. When I can combine food, fiction, writing, and history, I am thrilled. This is one reason I enjoyed writing my as of yet unpublished historical romance "Tempting Will McGlashen," Almost all of my passions were combine in one project. This past Saturday as a fateful event for me—it was the first time I have ever reached my fill of my much-loved dessert of choice. The Cvillepiefest (http://www.cvillepiefest.com) took place on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Mudhouse in Crozet, Va. The “piebrainchild” of  Steve Whitaker, Brian Geiger, and Marijean Jaggers, Cvillepiefest, the grassroots fundraising event was a great success, with well over 100 people attending and countless pie competitors. The count was more than any...

I ran across an interesting list of foodie books, including fiction,  this morning and I thought I'd share it with you. The historical romance that I've written "Tempting Will McGlashen," is also a bit of a foodie novel, albeit unpublished at this point. Great list. Enjoy! http://www.boulderweekly.com/20090806/cuisine1.html
