1. Tess is back to her old self. At the bus stop, she told me that she
can "smell" a magazine a mile away. She loves the smell of them and the
feel of them. Did my heart good.
2. That reminded me of when I was a kid. My grandfather was a a lay out
artist at the Beaver County Times. Sometimes he'd bring me blank
newsprint. I'd spread it out over the floor, lay on my stomach, and draw
boxes on it, then fill in the boxes with hand-printed stories. If I
think about it, I can almost feel that newsprint on my elbows. I
remember the complete and utter satisfaction of those filled in boxes.
The process. I still love it.
3. When I was in my 20s, I ran into my third grade teacher. I was a
newsletter writer and producer and the time. She laughed when I told her
that. "I still have newsletters that you wrote in the third grade."
4. So, this writing thing I do is not something I just stepped into over
night. It's a part of who I am. I keep coming back to that.
5. I think about my grandfather a lot. He died when I was 7. But, just
the short time I knew him influenced my life in so many ways.
Grandparents rock.
1. Mmm. I smell chocolate chip cookies. Okay, maybe it's chocolate chip muffins or pancakes. Definitely chocolate. Which means I need to find some—quick.
2. "China, all the way to New York."
3. The air is so cool and crisp and I can feel deep down in my chest. Breathing is a great thing. ;-)
4. I had my first skype "meeting" with @charmianchristie and it worked out very well. I was surprised at how easy it was. It was great to see her--instead of emailing or chatting online.
5. Tess is still sick and Emma has an eye dr. appointment. As usual, I am going in three directions today.
1. Tink is loving this melting snow. She gets to visit all her old haunts and sniff to her heart's content.
2.Tess is sick. Her stomach started bothering her yesterday. And she
woke up in the middle of the night with a nose bleed. So, she's home
with me today.
3. I won't be going to the library. But that's okay. One thing I have
had to learn is to be flexible when it comes to my schedule. Kids
first. And I build the rest of my day around them. I won't always have
to do that.
4. Believing in 6 impossible things before breakfast or eleven possible things before noon. It's all good.
5. Heart is pounding, which is also good. I love feeling it, pushing
it, and almost hearing the blood rushing.through my veins. Running for my
life. Too dramatic? ;-)
1. One of the things I liked about Alice in Wonderland was Alice
putting on armour and fighting the jaberwocky. I'm glad Emma saw that.
2. I miss my Tess. She's been gone since yesterday--b-dy party. Her father is beside himself.
3. Saw a pretty little chickadee...
4. I'm having my first Skype meeting with a colleague this morning.
Can't wait. For those of you who have mac minis, the trick to the mike
issue is getting a USB head set.
5. I loved seeing Paula in NY. But here's the thing: now I really miss
her. You know, you get used to being without someone you were once
close to and you are okay. Then you see them and realize how much time
has gone, how much you miss them.
1. The gray fox Eric and I saw this morning in our front yard. We were
drinking coffee and saw it ramble through the yard. Pretty.
2. 28. 32. 35, 40. ish. Ah well. Age is a funny thing. The ladies at
the beauty salon told me to never tell people how old I am. "Tell them
you are 32." ;-)
3. Tess is so excited about this birthday bash she is going to. She is
going ice skating and then sleeping over. She's already packed.
4. I'm going to say this one more time: Jimmy Black and I were not a
couple. we were very good friends. We went to the senior events
together because we didn't have dates. He did get one for the senior
prom. And I went with Alan Johnson (also now gone) who was my
boyfriend's best friend. My boyfriend at the time was Donny Moore--not
in our class.
5. "What have I become, my only friend? .... Everyone goes away in the end."
1. Snow has always been a four-letter word, but these days, it has a whole different connotation.
2. Worked really late last night on the German proofing gig. I hope today I can get back in the fiction-writing mode.
3. There was a strange man that popped up out of nowhere today, He wouldn't make eye contact. At least he had clothes on.
4. I love volunteering at the school when it's the Children's Art
Network. One reason is Stephanie, the woman who is in charge. We knew
each other from when Emma and her son were babies and we went to the
library story time together. We lost track of each other. But she lives
out in the county and it's been really hard this winter for them. She
is not really a drinker, but once her husband actually dug them out
(after days) so he could go to the store, she asked for wine coolers.
"What kind?" he asked. The answer? "Whatever goes with Honey Nut
Cheerios. I'm starting at breakfast."
5. I can't believe I am still running. It's been a little over a year. And I still love it.
1. If I had it to do all over again, I would not have bought this Mac Mini. It's has been a real pain.
2. I think it must be hard to be 11. One minute you are hip and cool
and feeling very grown up and the next, you want your mommy to tuck you
in.
3. I am going to the school this morning and practicing my mean mama
face. I have a rep with the kids and I do like to live up to it. ;-)
4. Since I've been back from New York, my hot flashes have gotten
worse. Oye. I didn't even have ONE when I was there. And I had no
problem sleeping either.
5. Getting lots of work in from my German proofing gig. Great. I need it.
1. Couldn't get to the run earlier in the morning because we went out for breakfast. And I was out late last night. I am moving slow...
2. Thinking about my new blog. Have you seen it? http://www.molliecoxbryan.com/kitchenqueenoffishpotroad
3. So good to be with some good friends last night. I cherished each moment. We all get so busy that it's tough to get together. But we need to make more of an effort.
4. Heard something about my niece Abbey's poetry. But my mom gets things confused. Something about a professor taking a real interest in her poetry. Way to go Abbey.
5. Eric's high blood pressure medicine. He just started it this week and he came home for work one day to sleep. He seems to be adjusting now, but is having some wild dreams. Funny, because he hardly remembered his dreams before.
