1. Eric's injury. He has no idea how he hurt himself, but it's
reignited an old football injury. (Yeah, that's right, I married a
football player and those of you who know me from way long ago will
find that kind of strange. We often joke that if we had met in college
we never even would have looked one another's way.)
2. Bono in my ear..and at my neck, shoulder...Ooo. waitaminute. Where am I?
3. Playing Scrabble with the girls. Emma having a fit because no
Spanish words are allowed. "We need to write our own rules." Ya gotta
love that. I hope she hangs on to that .
4. I really want to see Precious. I hung out with Sapphire years ago at
a writer's conference in NY. Don't know if she'd remember me or not.
But I found her to be one of the friendliest and most interesting
people at the conference. It was about 18 years ago.
5. Trying to get the money together to go to a conference in Feb.
1. It's comfort to run my own streets.
2. Conversation with my Ma. "Why are your eyes so puffy and swollen?"
"I'm allergic to smoke. You know that." "It must be something else. It
could be anything else." "No. It's either smoke, mold, or dog." "It
must be mold." Nahhhh. It could not be the smoke form her cigarettes.
One after the other. It's so troubling.
3. A dear, dear, friend in rehab, again. I'm afraid he won't ever kick it, but I hope he will.
4. Got some work in from my German client. Will be working today. I
don't mind. I like the work and she is a delight. It's kind of
surprising to me that I remember some of my high school German, which
sometimes slips into the translations.
5. My red velvet pie. Hmm. It's a bit too sweet for me. I think there
was too much topping. If I take off half of the cream cheese topping,
it's quite good. Eric loves it. He's got quite the sweet tooth.
1. Okay. Can't sit for 6 hours in a car without taking a run FIRST.
2. Publicist and publisher love the video. It's up on Ten Speed's
site--and will be on Random House's site next week. They also want to
put it on Amazon. YAY!
3. So thankful I still have both parents--even though neither one of
them are easy to deal with. I think my Dad isn't talking to me because
I'm not staying with him. I think my visit with my Mom and nieces will
be great--as LONG AS WE DON"T TALK POLITICS or RELIGION.
4. I'm a cool bongo-pie mom. ;-)
5. A smashed pumpkin on the road. That makes me kind of sad.
1. I'm looking like a big yellow duck again. So sick of the rain.
2. I'm hanging in there on the NaNo novel--but I don't think I'll make
the 50 K. This week will be crazy because I'm going to Pa. I may finish
it the weekend after the deadline. It's doesn't matter--it will be a
first draft and will be finished when I get to it.
3. "Ooooo these little Earthquakes"
4. Hoping to keep up with my runs in Pa. But ya never know.
5. Gray. All the gray.
1. Seeing Beauty and the Beast and seeing so many friends last night. A
really wonderful show. Barb was excellent as Mrs. Potts. YAY, Barb. I
loved her costume and the way it moved. And beautiful, wonderful Hannah
did a great job. Her Mama must be proud!
2. I never knew how pretty Colton Berry is. I mean, I saw him a few
times on American Idol, but I don't really follow it. I never really
looked at him until last night when I shook his hand. Such a pretty
young man--and very talented. Emma was all atwitter--he winked at her.
3. As many of you know, Belle is my favorite princess--she reads, is smart, and could see the Beast for who he was.
4. Coming home to the video uploaded on youtube. Christy Majors did an
excellent job on it. She is so talented. I'll post a link soon. I'm
just learning my way around on youtube. If you have an account, friend
me. (Is that the right thing to say? lol.) I didn't write anything or
even rehearse this message. I just wanted it to be like a conversation.
5. Going to the Edelweiss today. Mmmm. Love that place.
1. Unraveling my twisty plot.
2. Some people are surprised that I'm taking part in NaNoMo. I'm
looking at it as an exercise. No matter what point you're in your
writing career, it's a good thing to challenge yourself with something
different. I have one fiction and one non-fiction being shopped around.
And I am working on another cookbook proposal, along with promoting the
pie book and working at my editing gig. So, the NaNoMo novel is fun for
me and who knows it may lead me somewhere--but I am not shirking any of
my other business.
3. Emma was upset by her writing scores on the pre-SOL test. "They want
me to write about things I DON"T WANT TO WRITE ABOUT," she said, trying
not to cry. I hear you, baby.
4. That red velvet cake was fantastic. It was different that the
store-bought ones I have had and I don't think I've had homemade
before. This is a denser cake than what I thought it would be. I am not
sure if this is how it "should" be--but who cares--it was delicious.
5. I think Tink is developing a little crush on Jack Johnson...
1. Can not believe how late I slept in and that the girls actually made it to the bus.
2. That red velvet cake. Hmmm. I did feel a little like I was cheating
on pie. But a little variety never hurt anybody. And I do need to get
to know cake better. After I thought about it, I have made cake from
scratch, but it was so long ago. Most recently (a few years back) I
made my Gram's Depression cake from scratch.
3. Eric's home today and all next week. Today is his birthday--KING for a day.
4. I can't tell you how many people have been surprised over the years
that I am NOT a single mom. They are surprised when they actually meet
Eric. "You actually DO have a husband." One woman said to me. He makes
it to all the important functions; don't misunderstand me. But he works
a lot and prefers to be at home when he's not working. So it's usually
me and the girls out and about--and most of the time, I am okay with
that.
5. I am really liking this editing gig and the fact I get paid through
Paypal. I think I can handle a few more editing clients. I just
purchased the online version of the Gregg Style Manual. My Chicago and
AP books are so old. I think for what I'm doing the Gregg is perfect.
1. If Eric thinks he's moving me into a trailer in the woods, he's got
another thought coming to him. I mean that's where I started, and I
ain't going back.
2. I'm sure I look like a big yellow duck flapping it's wings around out here on this rainy morning. Quack, quack, man.
3. So, Eric asked me to bake him a red velvet cake for his birthday.
And I'm a little nervous--I don't think I've ever baked a cake from
scratch. Cake is a different planet--it's not that I have anything
against it. In fact, I plan to get to know it intimately over the next
few years...
4. So, what's the deal with sifting? Do you really need to do it? And what difference does it make?
5. Been up since 3:30. Wonder when and where I will crash.
1.A little lost dog in the neighborhood. Half poodle-half terrier. Her name is Suzie.
2. Getting our estimate finally for the electrician to install the fans
in our bathroom. I think we can get it done and get the show on the
road. But we are thinking about NOT buying another house—but getting
property and building one of our own. That's not as fancy as it
sounds--at least not for us. ;-)
3.Hearing from a man I went to high school with--Bob. It's so lovely to
hear from him. He's looking for a copy of my first book "Unsilenced."
And I am sorry to tell you, Bob, I don't think I have one. If I do,
it's in deep storage. It was remaindered years ago. It's a book I
compiled and edited—some of my poems and essays are in it, as well. But
it's a collection of women's writing about their spirituality.
4. Still no word about Tempting Will--except that the "waiting sucks
for everybody." Indeed. What's my coping strategy? Keeping busy.
5. Emma's field trip in Yorktown. It's the first long one I haven't
gone on--and I'm a little worried about her. But she's very
excited--was excited enough to get up at 5;30 this morning. Had to be
at the school at 6:30.
